Elbow is a very sensitive area that can be hurt in sports persons that perform activities of the upper limbs. It can be very intense injury that may spoil the career of an athlete.

Symptoms of Elbow injuries

  • Extreme and intense pain

  • Limited ability to perform simple activities using elbow

  • Numbness and tingling of the elbow, forearm, or hand

  • Inflammation of the elbow

Treatment of Elbow injuries

Depending upon the cause and severity of injury, physician may prescribe following treatment to the patient:

Nonsurgical Treatment

  • Rest to the elbow by restricting all sports and other activities

  • Stabilizing the area with sling to avoid further damage

  • Physical therapy including specific exercises & rehabilitation program to restore flexibility and strength of the elbow

  • Change of position of sports is done to reduce the stress on the elbow

  • Anti-inflammatory medications include drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen to reduce pain and swelling of the elbow

Surgical Treatment

In cases where all the above non-surgical treatment options fail to provide any relief to the patient, surgery is performed to fix the abnormality and restore the elbow functionality.
