Shoulder fracture is one of the most common injury that involves breakage in any one or more bones of shoulder including clavicle (collar bone), proximal humerus (top of the upper arm bone), and scapula (shoulder blade).
Characteristics of Shoulder Fracture:
Cause: Direct blow from a fall OR collision OR motor vehicle accident OR high-energy trauma, such as a high speed motor vehicle accident
Symptoms: Pain, swelling, deformity, bruising and tenderness of the joint along with inability to move the shoulder and a grinding sensation while moving the shoulder
Treatment: Treatment of the most of the shoulder fracture involves its immobilization with a sling or shoulder immobiliser. Some fractures of Humerus, clavicle, need surgery for fixation of the fracture fragments with plates and screws.
