Pelvic Fractures

Pelvis fracture is the breakage in the sturdy ring of bones located at the base of the spine. Pelvis fracture is most commonly associated with extensive bleeding due to its proximity to major blood vessels. It generally requires emergency treatment.

Cause of Pelvic Fracture:

Traumatic, high-energy event, such as a car or motorcycle collision OR crush accident OR fall from a significant height.

Symptoms of Pelvic Fracture:

Pain, swelling, deformity, bruising and tenderness of the joint along with aggravation of pain on movement of hip or on an attempt to walk.

Treatment of Pelvic Fracture:

Treatment depends upon the severity of the injury. While low-impact fractures can be managed with conservative care, treatment for high-impact pelvic fractures usually involves surgery to reconstruct the pelvis and restore stability so that patients can resume their daily activities.

Surgical Treatment of Pelvic Fracture:

  • External Fixation
  • Skeletal Traction
  • Open reduction and Internal fixation
