ROTATOR CUFF TEAR – LIGAMENT INJURY SHOULDER

Rotator cuff is a network of four muscles. These four muscles gives stability and allow extreme range of movement of the shoulder joint.

The four muscles are-

  • Supraspinatus
  • Infraspinatus
  • Teres minor
  • Subscapularis
  • Causes

    • Sports injury
    • Fracture of the humeral head
    • Fall with out-stretched hand
    • Impingement of the cuff

    Symptoms

    • Pain
    • Restricted range of motion
    • Difficulty in lifting the arm

    Treatment

    • Rest, ice, physical therapy, or Surgery.
    • Surgery is advised in acute, traumatic rotator cuff tear with muscle weakness.
    • Rehabilitation of the shoulder is required to regain maximum muscle strength.

      • First 4 weeks – Immobilization
      • 4 – 6 weeks – Passive mobilization
      • 6 – 10 weeks – Both active and Passive mobilization
