Hip Fracture
A breakage in the upper quarter of the femur (thigh) bone is termed as hip fracture. It is quite a complicated fracture that mostly requires surgical intervention.
Causes
- Fall OR direct blow to the side of the hip OR forceful twisting of leg.
Symptoms
- Pain or weakness over the outer upper thigh or in the groin.
- Discomfort while flexing or rotating the hip.
Treatment
- Some fractures of the hip can be managed non-surgically.
- Other fractures require surgery to reconstruct the normal anatomy of the hip
- Hemiarthroplasty/Partial Hip replacement and restore mobility.
Post-surgical recovery
- Patients are mobilized full weight bearing
- High bed sitting
- Spirometry
